Meet Michael A. Sorace, M.D.

Dr. Sorace attended Emory University as an undergraduate and then enrolled at The State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center for medical school. As a medical student, Dr. Sorace distinguished himself through his numerous accomplishments and honors. He received multiple awards including the William Montanga, MD Award for Excellence in Dermatological Research and a McGraw Hill Award for outstanding achievement as a medical student. He received membership into the national honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha, during his third year of medical school and served as the president of the honor society in his fourth year. He ultimately graduated first in his class of over 150 medical students.

Dr. Sorace earned a position at the prestigious UCLA Division of Dermatology for his residency. He continued his pattern of excellence by attaining the top honor bestowed upon a resident in his program, the Ronald Reisner Award, two years in a row. He served as the chief resident in his final year of residency.

After residency, Dr. Sorace served the community of San Antonio as a general dermatologist. However, he soon returned to training to subspecialize in Mohs surgery and procedural dermatology where he gained experience in all aspects of advanced skin surgery. He completed a fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at one of the busiest and most demanding programs in the country.

Outside of practice, Dr. Sorace enjoys spending time with his wife, Regina and his dog, Polly. His hobbies include traveling, cooking, SCUBA diving, and playing golf.

Dr. Yang Xia

Dr. Yang Xia received his Bachelor of Science degree at the United States Military Academy at West Point where he graduated salutatorian. He received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr. Xia completed his internship and Dermatology residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident during his 3rd year and received the prestigious Bailey K. Ashford Clinical Research award.

Dr. Xia served as Chief of Dermatology Services at Evans Army Community Hospital, Ft. Carson, Colorado prior to starting his Mohs Procedural Dermatology Fellowship at Scripps Clinic, San Diego, California with Dr. Hubert Greenway. After completing his fellowship, he was asked to join the teaching staff at one of the nation’s largest dermatology residency programs at the combined Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. While there he served as the Director of Mohs Surgery and established and ran the department’s first outpatient laser vein clinic.

In 2010, Dr. Xia deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom where he received the Bronze Star Medal.

Dr. Xia currently serves as Chief, Dermatology Surgery and Director Dermatology Vein Clinic at San Antonio Military Medical Consortium. He has performed over 3000 Mohs cases and over 2800 complicated wound repairs to include cutaneous flaps and grafts. Dr. Xia has also performed over 1300 ultrasound evaluations of lower leg veins and over 800 endovenous laser vein cases.

Dr. Xia is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery. Dr. Xia has lectured at several national medical meetings including the annual conferences for the American Academy of Dermatology, American College of Mohs Surgery and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. He has also published in many prominent medical journals to include the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Dermatologic Surgery Journal.
